Humble Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry

In 1998, Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, two graduates of the 1997 Women's Leadership Institute at The Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut gave birth to the idea of a prayer shawl ministry. Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting were combined into a prayerful ministry which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace through celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl.

Humble Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of gifted and prayerful women who make shawls for those who: are undergoing medical procedures; need comfort after a loss or in times of stress; are in a time of bereavement; are experiencing illness or recovery; awaiting test results; or simply need ministering to. Each shawl is begun with prayer over the yarn and during the process of making the shawl. Upon completion a prayer is said for the recipient and the shawl is sent on its way. They can be knitted, crocheted, quilted or woven.

While it is not necessary to attend meetings to make prayer shawls, we would love to have you join us. Humble Hands meets at a member's house on the 1st Thursday of each month from 9:30 am to 12 noon. If you would like to request a prayer shawl for someone, or would like more information, please contact us.
