Rev. Dr. Tommy Artmann
pastor@heritage-umc.org

Tommy came to Heritage in June of 2000.  He has a passion for Bible study, missions, and outreach.  He strongly supports and participates in both local and international missions.  Having worked in youth ministry for 18 years before entering the pastoral ministry, he also brings a high level of interest to the youth and children's ministries of Heritage Church. Tommy has served as a youth minister in Clinton, MS; the associate pastor of Christ United in Jackson, MS; the pastor in Magee, MS; and now as the pastor of Heritage. A graduate of Millsaps College and Asbury Theological Seminary, he was later chosen to study in the Beeson Pastor's Program at Asbury Seminary and is a 1997 graduate of that program. The vision of Heritage closely reflects Tommy’s personal vision to be part of a Loving, Winning, Growing Community of faith.  He and his wife Paula are the proud parents of two college students and a high school senior.

Mr. Patrick Hutto                      Minister to Students
youthministry@heritage-umc.org

Some of his fellow colleagues call him “Boy Wonder” while others think that he is plain crazy! Patrick graduated from the great University of Mississippi and holds his Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. His hobbies include long walks in the rain, singing musical show tunes in the car while driving, going out to eat, and substitute Nascar racecar driver for the Joe Gibbs racing team.  He has a little difficulty color coordinating his wardrobe, but other than that he is an all right guy.

Part-Time Staff

Rev. Nelson Walley               Minister of Congregational
                                                                         Care

ministerofcare@heritage-umc.org

If you find yourself in the hospital, chances are you will see the smiling face of Nelson Walley. Nelson is a "retired" United Methodist Minister who has served twelve congregations in his 56 years of ministry. He currently serves as our Minister of Congregational Care. Nelson has an especially deep love for the Heritage Congregation. With the help of Evelyn, his dear wife of 56 years, this is his third time to serve the Heritage (Broad Street) family. They have two sons and five grandchildren. Nelson’s great love is Church work.  He says, "I tried fishing—no luck. I tried golf—no luck.  I tried woodwork—no good at it.  But with the Church I have always been happy because I am serving God." It is almost worth getting sick just so you can have a visit from Nelson and Evelyn.

Dr. Mark Malone                                  Minister of Music
musicministry@heritage-umc.org

Music serves a vitally important role in the life of Heritage. Mark Malone is one of the primary reasons. Mark joined the Heritage staff in the fall of 2004. From the beginning he brought excellence and excitement to the music ministry of Heritage. Mark holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University and currently serves as the Dean of the Winters School of Music at William Carey University. His outgoing and vibrant personality makes being a member of the choir one of the congregation’s favorite ways to serve Christ at Heritage. In addition to leading worship in our services, Mark directs our Chancel Choir, Youth Choir, and Adult Handbell Choir. Mark’s wife Patty is a Professor of Music at USM. They are parents to one teenaged child and one college student.

Mr. Wes Cameron                              Music Accompanist
musicministry@heritage-umc.org

Officially, Wes serves as the Heritage Church organist.  Unofficially, Wes does a whole lot more. As a native of Hattiesburg who grew up at the old Broad Street Church (which relocated to become Heritage UMC), Wes has filled many a gap in his years at Heritage. In the past he has served as the Youth Choir director, Chancel Choir director, and Handbell Choir director. A graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Master of Music degree with an emphasis in conducting, Wes currently serves on the staff of William Carey College where he teaches conducting, music literature, music appreciation, and woodwinds.

A few years after Emily and her husband, Owen, married, they moved to the Hattiesburg area. Emily and Owen, who also graduated from USM, are HUGE Southern Miss fans and needed to be back in the “Hub City”.  Emily and Owen joined the church in April of 2006. They have two nursery age children.
