It Takes Everyone

     For the past two years Heritage has done what most say cannot be done.  We have had 80% participation in the volunteer ministries of our church from our active membership. Most churches have 20%; we have 80%.

     Some of our people volunteer to do big, time consuming tasks; others find their   circumstances do not allow for large time commitments, so they volunteer for less time consuming, but equally important ministries. Others pray faithfully and everyday for Heritage church. We have people who volunteer for “up-front” roles, while others do less noticeable things like make coffee or stuff bulletins. Some volunteer weekly;   others volunteer for things that only occur once or twice a year.  As we tell everyone who joins Heritage, we want you to find your “meaningful ministry” at Heritage.

     As Heritage grows, it becomes increasingly important for EVERYONE to complete his or her volunteer commitment sheet EVERY YEAR.

     When we move into the new sanctuary, we will have new and increased needs for volunteers in specific areas: we will certainly need more greeters and more ushers in more places.  We would love to have “parking lot greeters” this year.

     We have also identified specific areas where we especially need volunteers in 2009. We need additional nursery volunteers and volunteer office workers. We need volunteers in such varied areas as grounds and maintenance work, Sunday Night Kids helpers, Wednesday night kitchen helpers, acolyte coordinators, sound operators, and scripture readers (especially at 11:00).

     It takes everyone doing their part to make Heritage a Loving, Winning, Growing Community.  Do your part to study your 2009 In His Steps Volunteer Commitment Booklet.  Then take the time to pray, complete, and turn in your 2009 Volunteer Commitment Form.

     One last thing: serving Christ Jesus always brings joy into our lives. We do not serve grudgingly, but joyfully.  When we serve together, we come to know and love one another. I am convinced our volunteer service is one of the best means Heritage has of winning people to Christ.
